What will You Consider When Choosing a DIESEL Watch

There are two reasons why watches are still very popular even when most people carry a mobile phone with them to tell the time: they are stylish and they are highly practical. But which of the two is most important for you?
Watches such as Police watches, One watches and Kenneth Cole watches are often used to make a statement as well as for their practical purposes, and this article looks at some of the situations when you might want to choose a watch based on style or practical reasons.
Choosing a Watch for Style Reasons
Everything you wear says something about you. The clothes that you wear, the brands, the colours, the styles, your jewellery, the types of shoes you wear, the bag you carry - and a watch is no different.
Watches can be a fantastic way to make a statement, especially if you choose well-known makes such as Ice watches and Armani Exchange watches. When you wear a watch such as this it instantly says something about you. This might be important for you when you head to a social event and you want to make an impression. Or perhaps you are involved in an important business meeting and want your associates to treat you more seriously.
A watch is a great way to subtly give a message to those around you without making it too obvious. Little decisions such as whether you choose to wear a large, bold watch or a small, petite watch, a silver or leather strap, something ultra modern or something classic and traditional, will always say something different about you.
Choosing a Watch for Practical Reasons
A watch is also a highly practical piece of equipment. Not only can you use it to tell the time with easy access wherever you are without having to take out a phone, but many watches, including those from high-quality makes like Citizen watches and Diesel watches, often come with lots of extra features including alarms, calculators, timers and stop watches to make them even more useful. So if practicality is more important to you than style then you will still be able to find your perfect watch.
One time when you may want to use your watch for purely practical reasons is when you partake in a sports activity. Some watches are made for sports, such as Adidas watches, Casio watches and Rotary Divers watches. Other watches are built to be solid, waterproof, durable and made to last which makes them particularly practical and ideal for use during sports and any other activities where such features can come in handy.
Practical and Stylish in One Model
Although some watches are built purely for reasons of style and some are built with practical reasons in mind, this doesn't mean that you cannot have the best of both worlds. Many of the best makes of watches including DKNY watches and Philipe Starck watches provide models which are both practical and stylish so that you can use them to make the right impression even when it is still performing a practical function.
Conclusion
Find Your Perfect Watch
Whether you opt for a watch for practical or stylistic reasons, take your time over your decision and make sure you find the perfect model, whether you end up choosing BCBG Max Azria Watches, DIESEL Watches or any other make. There are so many watches to choose from and so much variety now available that you are certain to find one which suits you perfectly, whatever your reason for purchasing it.

Why do some people still wear watches?

It seems like we're surrounded with devices that'll help you tell time. Why do some people also wear a watch then? Is it because it is considered by some people to be jewelry?

Answer1: When someone asks me what time it is, I can usually answer before people even start reaching for their phones. It takes a lot less effort to rotate your wrist and move your eyes than take a phone out, press a button, get distracted by notifications and lock your phone again. Also, watch batteries last much longer than phone batteries.

Answer 2: Watches are a fashion accessory and, if you can afford an expensive one, a status symbol. Also, although many of us carry a mobile phone that tells the time, we also may keep it in our pocket or purse. Checking the time requires pulling it out. It's faster to simply glance at a wrist.

Answer 3: I like one of the last analog dials in my life - the others being my car speedometer and tachometer. I like the ability to tell time at a quick glance without having to reach for my phone and having people think I'm texting or getting bored. If you're checking the time quite constantly (trying not to miss something, timing a jog, running late somewhere) the time-checking motion is a lot less awkward.

Finally because I've worn a watch for most of my life, I just feel weird without a watch on my wrist. It feels like I'm missing a piece of clothing, like I'm a little naked. Also, if I get really bored I can spin the dial on the face of my watch.

Answer 4: Watches are wonderful pieces of engineering. One of my favorite watches to wear is a skeleton watch, where you can see each gear moving one another with some hypnotizing repetition...

Answer 5: Some have numerous complications, such as ability to see moon phases, keep track of dates, stopwatch functionality, etc...

They represent one of the greatest engineering achievements of all time... i heard someone say that a significant contributor to US's WWII win was the soldiers' pocket watches, giving them the ability to coordinate better...

Oh, and they look fine, which is probably why most people wear them.

What's your answer about this question?

Something about Diesel watches and Renzo Russo

The Genius Group, the forerunner to Diesel was founded in 1978 by Renzo Russo and Adriano Goldschmied. The Diesel name brand, and of course, Diesel Watches, came a year or so later in 1979, and by 1985, Russo had bought out his partner, Goldschmied, and the other Genius Group partners to go it alone. It proved to be a smart move and he has never looked back. In a way, his business entrepreneurship all started with rabbits.
Renzo Russo grew up in Brugine, a town in the north east of Italy where he was born in 1955. He was 10 years old when he was given a rabbit as a gift, he decided to breed rabbits, and before long he had over 100 of the little furry animals scurrying around the small farm his family operated. By all accounts, this first business venture was a huge success, and perhaps it helped him set his sights on bigger things.
He attended a textile manufacturing school, the first of its kind in Italy, when he was 15. He graduated from the school and started to design his own style of clothes. In 1975 he started work at Moltex, a textile company local to his area. It was owned by his later to be partner, Adriano Goldschmied. The company specialised in making trousers and Russo was employed as production manager. Adriano Goldschmied wasn't impressed by Russo though and threatened to let him go. Russo agreed to go on commission and work for a reduced salary. He soon turned the company around, and then began thinking of setting up on how own.
He made a proposal to Adriano Goldschmied that they should form a partnership to promote new designer labels, and in 1978 the Genius Group came into being. They created a number of highly successful designer brands, such as Ten Big Boys, Katherine Hamnett, Goldie and Martin Guy. Russo also created one of his own: Diesel watch.

The Importance of Choosing the Right Brand of a New Watch

Some people do not pay much attention to brands, and that is fair enough. However, when it comes to choosing a new watch, the brand is often very important. Here are a few of the main reasons why.
Connotations of Certain Brands
Some brands are known for having a long and esteemed history of producing consistently quality watches. Rotary watches and other similar makes are known all over the world for their style and elegance, and this makes the person who wears such a watch look confident and stylish as well.
Other brands are known for being more sporty, and brands such as Adidas watches and Casio watches would fit into this category. It is therefore important which brand you choose because it will be saying something about your personality.
Different Specialisms
Some watches are made to look good and to create the right impression when worn by someone, and in such cases the brand is hugely important. Other watch brands may be more specific in nature and may be created for the sole purpose of being used for an activity. Rotary divers watches, for example, are used for diving and are designed for this specific reason, so if you enjoy a particular sport then it might be worth finding a brand which specialises in this.
History of the Brand
Some brands have been around for many decades, and this means that they have more experience of making watches and often create timepieces to the highest quality as a result. Brands such as Sekonda watches, Casio watches and Rotary watches have refined their techniques over the years, and as a result the watch is often more likely to last for longer so that you will get more for your money.
The Price
Whenever you buy a watch, a higher price is generally linked to better quality. You should therefore choose the brand which comes at the right price for you. If you want to say something special with your watch, something more expensive may be in order. However, if you don't mind what it says, go with a quality brand even if it does not produce such expensive watches. You need to choose the brand which is suitable for your own budget, and always get the best that you can afford.
Conclusion
Choose the Right Brand for You
Watches by specialist brands are generally the best choice when it comes to choosing a new timepiece. However, there are a wide range of watches to choose from, including Seksy watches, Diesel watches, One watches and more, and some are more expensive whereas some are designed specifically for certain activities. A good brand is a sign of quality, so it is good to go with a watch from a well-known brand if you can, and always remember to consider the connotations which the brand comes with when choosing your next watch.

How to Adjust a Watch Band by Yourselves

Many wristwatches come with ready adjustable wristbands that are made of leather or plastic with holes and clasps for easy adjustment of the size. However, many designer brand diesel watches and metal watch bands require the removal of metal links to adjust the size down. This may seem like a difficult task at first, but you can do this yourself at home with a few simple tools. Taking the watch to a jeweler or repair place isn't necessary and will cost you money.

Part 1 of 2: Sizing Your Watch

Put the watch on without adjusting it. You will need to note how big the watch is.

  • If the watch is very loose, you will have to remove lots of links.
  • If the watch is just slightly loose and you aren't in danger of it falling off, you might consider leaving it as is unless it is bothersome.
  • If your watch is too small, you will have to buy extra links from the manufacturer to make the band larger.

Find the clasp. Pinch the band evenly from the clasp until it is the proper size.
  • Make sure you have an equal number of links on either side of the clasp that need to be removed.
  • This will make sure the watch itself stays centered on the wrist band.
  • Write down the number of links that need to be removed from either side of the clasp.
Get your tools assembled. There are several things you will need to adjust your watch band.
  • You will need one or two push pins. You will use these to push the pins that hold the links together out of their holes.
  • Get a pair of needle nosed pliers to help you remove the pins.
  • You will need a small jewelry hammer.
  • Make sure you are working on a flat surface with good lighting. You will need to collect any pins you remove from the band.
Part 2 of 2: Removing Links from the Wristband

Lay the watch on its side on your flat surface. Be sure to leave about 12centimeter (0.2 in) of space between the bottom of each removable link and the flat surface.
  • Count up the lumber of links you will need to remove.
  • Find the pin holding the last link in place.
  • This is where you will remove the links.

Get your pushpins. Use one of the pushpins to push out the pin holding the wristband link in place.
  • Push the sharp end of the pushpin against the head of the link pin.
  • If it doesn't give, use your jewelry hammer to force the head of the pushpin into the hole for the link pin.
  • A small amount of the push pin should now be protruding from the other side of the link.
  • Use the hammer to drive the push pin in further to get more of the link pin out.
Remove the pin with the pliers. You will have to full forcefully to get the pin out.
  • Once you have enough of the link pin out of the hole on the other side of the wrist band to grasp it with the pliers, you can use the pliers to get it out.
  • Grasp the end of the pin tightly with the needle nose pliers.
  • Pull it out.
  • The links you need from one side of the clasp should be removed now.
  • You need to repeat the process for the other side of the wrist band now.
Detach the clasp from the section of removed links. You will need to do this to put it back onto your wristband.
  • Detach it using the same method you did for the links.
  • There should be a pin holding the clasp onto the links. Remove it using the hammer, pushpins, and pliers.
  • You will now re-attach the clasp to the wristband.
Attach the clasp back onto the wrist band. Line up the link on the clasp with the last link on one side of your wristband.
  • You should see a clear hole where a pin should go to hold the clasp on.
  • Take one of the pins you removed and insert it into this hole.
  • It should go most of the way in on its own, except for the last little bit on the end.
  • Use the hammer to gently pound the pin into the hole the whole way.
  • Repeat this process on the other side of the clasp.
  • Your watch band is now adjusted and assembled.
Try on the watch. It should now fit without being too big or too small.
  • If you have over-adjusted the watch, try adding a link to each side of the watch band.
  • If you haven't taken enough links out, re-assess how many need to be removed for the watch band to be tight enough and comfortable.
  • Wear the watch for a few days to make sure its comfortable.

Are watches really water-proof?

No. In fact, they aren’t. It is actually illegal to represent a diesel watch as being water-proof. Watches, however, can be water-resistant. In fact, most watches have some sort of water-resistance. A watch marked as water-resistant without a depth indication is designed to withstand accidental splashes of water only. Do not submerge such a watch. Higher
levels of water-resistance are indicated by increasingly higher acceptable depths, usually indicated in metres.

There are a variety of ways to make a watch water-resistant. All such watches use rubber gaskets or “O” rings to seal the case back. A watch with a back that screws onto the case provides a higher degree of water-resistance. Some crowns (the “winding stem”) actually screw into the case to further increase water-resistance. We do not recommend swimming or diving with your watch unless it has a screw-down crown (also known as “screw-lock” or
“screw-in” crown) and is water-resistant to at least 100 metres.

The History of a Diesel Watch

Diesel watches are known far and wide for being desirable items of jewellery, and if you would like to get one for yourself then you will not be disappointed. Here is a quick overview of the history of this famous Diesel watch to give you a better idea about the timepiece you are buying.
Company Origins
Diesel's story goes back to 1978 when the company was founded by Renzo Rosso in Italy. At this point, Diesel watches had not come into existence, and the company instead focused on clothing.
At first, Diesel remained a fairly small and unknown brand, at least on a global scale. It is hard to imagine that seeing as now it is one of the biggest fashion brands in the world, but for over a decade this was how it remained. In fact, the Diesel brand only began to start to get international recognition in the early 1990s.
Marketing Strategy
The company's international marketing strategy was formed in 1991, and you could say that this was the year that things really started to change for the company and it began to build a reputation whereby Diesel watches are now known all around the world.
Five years later, Diesel opened its first premium store in New York on Lexington Avenue. At the same time, Diesel was beginning to see some much larger sales in America, and the company brand was really starting to take off across the world.
Focus on Youthful Image
Diesel has always focused on targeting its products towards a younger, trendier audience. This is also true of Diesel watches, which accompany the clothing line and are sold as lifestyle products.
One of the main figures responsible for this successful strategy is Wilbert Das who joined the company in 1988. He overseas all creative decisions, including its licensed collections consisting of jewellery and Diesel watches.
Continuing to Innovate
Diesel has proved itself to be an innovative and stylish brand, and Diesel watches are now popular all around the world for their style and quality. After proving itself over two decades to be a genuine innovator, we can expect the company to go on creating ever-more exciting watch models and other apparel for many years to come.
Conclusion
Enjoy Your Historic Watch
Diesel watches are excellent timepieces, and when you buy your own you will be acquiring a watch which is famous all over the world. Now you know a bit more about the history of the watch, you can buy your own with confidence knowing that you are getting a truly historic watch.

8 Watches for the Budding Collector

1.The Omega Constellation Pie Pan model is far too beautiful to hide under a French cuff. The convex crystal and beveled Pie Pan dial exude a captivating elegance and sophistication. Constellations crafted in the ‘50s through to the early ‘70s feature some of Omega’s finest (and most robust) in-house movements. Early models, especially those powered by the calibre 551, are of interest due to their meticulous over-engineering, a 50-hour power reserve, and COSC chronometer certification.

2.Known simply as “The Reverso”, Jaeger LeCoultre’s iconic square dress watch has changed very little since its debut in 1931. It hasn’t had to. The Art Deco inspiration behind its aesthetic is timeless, and its party piece, a razor-thin flippable face, is nothing short of ingenious. Some models can be optioned with a second dial on the underside, a clear caseback, or a protective rear (like the original). Explaining itsraison d’etre to those who catch you playing with it at the bar should serve to keep conversations going well into your third Manhattan — and if that doesn’t work, tell ‘em Don Draper wore one.
3.Considered a sub-brand of Seiko, Prospex offerings are part of a Japanese domestic market (JDM) line specifically designed with the professional in mind. The Prospex Diver, aptly dubbed the “Tuna Can” due to its shrouded case, carries a long tradition of weapons-grade build quality and impeccable accuracy with depth ratings up to 1,000 meters. The finest examples are now available with Seiko’s revolutionary Spring Drive movement.
4.The Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon is the world’s first mechanical dive watch to include both lunar cycles and tidal ranges to its complication résumé. Crafted in titanium and encompassing a large 49mm case rated to 1,000 meters, the Pointer Moon is impossible to ignore. Because it’s available in both Northern and Southern hemisphere variations, the Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon can be used with confidence by professional divers on either side of the equator.
5.The Wakmann Watch Co. was established in New York in the early ‘40s as the American importer of Swiss timepieces. Their Wakmann Chronograph is the beautiful result of a special relationship with the Swiss marque, Breitling. In fact, some early examples of the Wakmann were co-branded as Breitling/Wakmann and feature many of the same parts as Breitling timepieces, including the Valjoux handwound movement. Build quality and attention to detail make subsequent Wakmann chronographs an excellent choice for collectors in the know.
6.Originally introduced in 1971, the Hamilton Pan-Europ is celebrated as being one of the first automatic chronographs of that era. Immediately eye-catching, the new Pan-Europ features a Panda-style textured two-register dial surrounded by an elevated tachymeter ring as well as a diver’s style bezel. The crown has since relocated to the right-hand side of the 45mm case to accommodate the beautifully displayed calibre H31 movement. Essentially a modified Valjoux 7750 chronograph, the Pan-Europ now offers a 60-hour power reserve. As a handsome homage to a classic timepiece, Hamilton’s piece is the perfect wristwear for the modernist who also appreciates heritage.
7.The Gallet Flying Officer was the first pilot’s chronograph to allow changes to time zones on the fly. With a quick glance at the outer dial of his wristwear, a pilot in 1937 could reference one of 24 major cities and make the necessary horological adjustments with a spin of the bezel. While Gallet isn’t usually the first name to be bandied about by collectors, they have an extensive history dating back to 1685 and claim to have produced the world’s first wristwatch. If that’s not enough, former President Harry Truman was known to flaunt a Flying Officer from time to time, so you know they’re tough.
8.Diesel watches are excellent timepieces, and when you buy your own you will be acquiring a watch which is famous all over the world. Now you know a bit more about the history of the watch, you can buy your own with confidence knowing that you are getting a truly historic watch.

Several Explanations about water resistance of diesel watches

People are often confused by what the stated water resistance of diesel watches actually means. Does a watch with “50 metres” as the water resistance mean you can dive with it as deep as 50 metres? No, you cannot. So why do they write 50 metres on it? Because it is referring to static pressure, not the actual depth of water it can be used in. This is a common misconception.

50 metres refers to the pressure experienced if it was static at a depth of 50 metres. When the watch moves the pressure rises well above a static pressure of 50 metres. 50 metres of static water pressure is easily achieved even in shallow depths. Consequently, a 50 metres watch should not be used for diving, however it can be immersed in water. Here are some common explanations of common water resistance standards:Water resistant means splash proof only – it can withstand slight splashes and rain, but is NOT to be immersed in water.

The table below outlines general guidelines of the water resistancy you will receive from an accordingly rated watch.

30 METRES / 3 ATM Splash proof and waterproof in small amounts of water
50 METRES / 5 ATM Can be submerged in water. Suitable for swimming, but not guaranteed to be resistant to jumping into the pool.
100 METRES / 10 ATM Suitable for swimming and shallow diving
200 METRES / 20 ATM Suitable for diving – not deep sea.

Nearly all diesel watches now have the Dolphin standard. This means they are ‘waterproof’ and can be used in all water activities except deep sea diving. This is a revolutionary concept from Rotary and means you can wear your diesel watch with the confidence that water will not enter the watch. For diving specifically, we have a large range of Citizen diving watches.

If you have the battery in your watch changed, you should be sure to have it resealed and pressure tested by the jeweller to ensure that it is still water resistant to the stated depth.
Please note, that continued exposure to water may affect the life span of a leather strap, and proper care should be taken as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Some things to avoid when you maintain a diesel watch

Extreme temperature can critically alter the timekeeping performance of a watch. Avoid exposing your diesel watch to temperatures above60°C/140 °Fand below0 °C/32 °F, such temperatures can be detrimental to any watch.

Magnets can cause your watch to run slow, fast or completely stop. Mechanical watches should not be exposed to anything containing a magnet as it will prevent your watch from working properly.

Be aware of and avoid placing your watch near subtle permanent magnets like those found in computers, speakers, refrigerator hook magnets, and yes, even cell phones.

Over time a watch’s repeated indirect exposure to magnetism creates an increasing effect that alters its performance. Simply bring your watch to a Swiss Repair specialized expert to demagnetize it in a matter of minutes. If the watch is severely magnetized, we will recommend that complete maintenance of the movement be performed.

Unexpected impacts or shocks to your watch may result in possible damage to the case, crystal, internal components: dial, hands and movement, as well as void your warranty. Such inopportune events may prevent the watch from functioning as desired and it will more than likely require service.

Often your watch may not have any visible indications of shock, however, if you suspect that it is not operating properly allow one of Swiss Repair’s expert watchmakers to diagnose and assess the cause and appropriate course of action to restore the watch’s function.

Avoid consistent contact with chemicals such as cosmetics, fragrances, detergents, solvents, etc., as prolonged exposure may damage the case, gaskets, leather strap and or bracelet of your watch.

How to identify whether a watch is fake or not

Watches have become a very important symbol of status and welfare. Many people are in the business of selling replicas, however, and if you're a quality watch lover it's important to be able to tell real from fake. When buying a watch from an unfamiliar store or person, pay attention to the steps listed below, as well as tips and warnings.

1. Familiarize yourself with the various collections of the watch brand you wish to purchase. Every nice watch has at least one signature element to it that can't be replicated; if you can identify that element, you'll always be able to tell when you're buying a knockoff watch.

2. As you're browsing, thoroughly inspect the watch you wish to buy. Pay attention to the inscriptions and engravings on the face and back of the watch. The original watch will never have a smeared inscription or an unclear engraving. Typos and letter substitutions in brand names and inscriptions (such as the ones in the above image) are also warning signs.

3. Pay attention to the functions of the watch and its chronograph. Most Rolex watches have a sweep second hand, while many fakes will have a tick style hand; however, some real Rolex watches have a tick style hand, so know your model. A replica watch that has a magnifying glass (called a cyclops) may also have a weak level of magnification in comparison to the genuine timepiece.

4. Note the precise movement of the watch. If you intend to buy a mechanical timepiece, you should try to take a look under the case back. Fake watches sometimes do have a mechanical movement, but it is typically of lower quality than the movement of a genuine watch.

The Do's and Don't's of Collecting High-End Watches

Expensive watches seem like a highly effective way of disposing of wealth. But smart collectors can profit from the rising values of vintage collectible diesel watches – as long as they follow certain rules.
Gordon Bethune is one of the most prominent – and best regarded – watch collectors in America. The former CEO of Continental Airlines, Bethune is selling 50 of his prized watches at auction at Christie's on Friday. The pieces could fetch more than $3 million, with one watch alone selling for up to $1 million or more.
Bethune declines to talk about the appreciation of specific watches. But many of them rose so much in value in recent years that he had to start keeping them in a safe deposit box. In fact, one of the main reasons he's selling them is because they became too valuable to wear.
"I enjoyed them when I bought them 20 years ago and right now the money's just sitting there," he said. "They're sitting in safe deposit boxes. They're wonderful, but you don't wear them because they cost too much money. I want to put the money to use. If I'm not going to wear them, let somebody else wear them and [I'll] do something else with the money."
Vintage watches have soared in value over the past decade, as the wealthy put more money into collectibles. Auction houses now sell more than $100 million worth of watches a year, and the numbers are growing in the double digits.
Bethune's collection includes pieces from Rolex, Cartier, Patek Philippe and other top names – mainly from the 1930s, '40s and '50s. Many have unusual features, like rectangular faces or rare materials. The centerpiece of his collection being sold is a 1945 Patek Philippe Reference 1518 in 18k pink gold. The estimate is between $600,000 and $900,000, though interest has been so strong that it could break $1 million.
Bethune said that investing in vintage, collectible watches is filled with risks. The market is filled with fake watches, as well as false claims that certain watches will appreciate. But he said you don't have to be rich to be a good watch collector – as long as you follow a few basic rules.
"There's some great watches for $1,500 bucks," he said. "Or you can spend $1,500 bucks and get nothing at a retail store downtown."
He said that one important rule is to stick with the blue-chip names, like Rolex, Patek or Cartier. People should buy from the used market – usually at trade shows or auctions. And he said collectors should pay an expert for advice, given the number of fakes and over-priced models.
"The substitute for knowledge is money," he said. "So pay someone who knows what he's doing to help you. Otherwise you pay too much."
He said the wealthy who spend six-figure sums on watches have a particular passion.
"Watches are the only jewelry men can wear, unless you're Mr. T," he said. "It's functional, it's a work of art, decorative art actually. They're not just mechanical things. And they're actually reliable, dependable. You can count on them to tell you what time it is."
Of course, a $19 Timex can tell time. But the art – and appreciation – comes at a much higher price.
